Scroll zkEVM Mainnet Launch: Co-founder Explains New Directions for Ecosystem Development
Scroll co-founder Haichen Shen: The launch of zkEVM Mainnet is a new starting point, and the ecosystem will focus more on real-world applications.
Recently, Scroll officially launched the zkEVM Mainnet. As an open-source Layer2 solution led by Asian entrepreneurs, Scroll has garnered significant attention in the industry. During the Ethereum community event held in Hong Kong, Scroll co-founder Haichen Shen was interviewed, sharing Scroll's development history and future plans.
Haichen stated that the launch of the Mainnet is an important milestone in the development of Scroll and also a new starting point. After two and a half years of development and one year of testnet operations, Scroll has completed the construction of core infrastructure such as zkEVM circuits and block generators. Currently, users can bridge assets from Ethereum to Scroll and use various applications.
When discussing the reasons for choosing zkEVM, Haichen believes that zk technology can provide users with faster and stronger security guarantees. The EVM equivalence allows developers to directly use Ethereum's development tools without modification, reducing development difficulty and risk.
Technically, Scroll adopts the method closest to EVM for writing zero-knowledge proof circuits, and the number of supported precompiled contracts is also the highest. The sorter is based on Go-Ethereum and can fully replicate the Ethereum native API, providing stronger compatibility.
Regarding ecological development, Haichen stated that the progress made since the launch over a week ago has met expectations. Currently, 15 million USD has entered the Scroll chain, and many DeFi applications have also started generating transactions. The growth rate of contract deployments has exceeded expectations, demonstrating the enthusiasm of developers.
In the future, Scroll will focus on supporting infrastructure services such as RPC, indexing, cross-chain bridges, and oracles. More DeFi applications will be launched later. In the long term, Scroll hopes to create an open and neutral platform, while also paying more attention to stablecoin payments, AA wallets, and other real-world applications, as well as public goods that benefit the entire ecosystem.
Haichen admitted that many technical challenges were encountered during the zkEVM development process, but they were resolved through collaboration with the open-source community. He believes that the entire Layer 2 ecosystem is still in its infancy and will need to further enhance the level of trustlessness, improve security, and attract more developers to create innovative applications in the future.
